RECURRING · NO COMMITMENT

PowerMTA, monthly rental.
€99/month with ongoing support, cancel anytime.

For operations that aren't ready to commit €1,499 upfront, or that have horizons under 15 months, or that prefer ongoing support over self-service updates: rental fits. Same PowerMTA software, same single-server license model, different commercial terms. Pay €99/month while you operate; stop paying when you don't.

The rental includes ongoing Telegram support throughout the subscription (vs 30 days install support on lifetime). It also includes automatic software updates, free hardware migrations, and a no-friction conversion path to lifetime license if your operation passes month 12. About 35% of our rental customers eventually convert to lifetime.

why rental fits some operations

Three reasons to rent rather than buy lifetime.

The first reason is uncertainty. New ventures, pilot deployments, contract work with clients, or any operation that hasn't yet validated demand benefits from optionality. Rental defers the €1,499 commitment until the operation proves itself. If the project ends in month 4, you've spent €396 on rental versus €1,499 on a license you no longer need. If the project continues past month 16, you convert to lifetime at that point with prior monthly fees credited forward.

The second reason is cash flow. Some operations would benefit from PowerMTA's capabilities but can't allocate €1,499 upfront in the current quarter. €99/month spreads the cost across the year and treats software as operational expense rather than capital expense. For early-stage businesses or self-funded operators, this distinction matters more than the lifetime mathematics.

The third reason is ongoing support and update simplicity. Lifetime license includes 30 days install support; beyond that, support bills at consulting rates (€199/hour) or requires our managed services. Rental includes ongoing support throughout the subscription. If your operation will generate questions across years (PowerMTA configuration is deep), rental's bundled support can amortise to less than buying support hours separately. We push software updates automatically to rental subscribers; lifetime customers self-service their own updates.

The honest counter-argument: long-term operations save money on lifetime. Rental crossover with lifetime happens at month 16. Operations running 3-5 years pay €3,564-€5,940 in rental fees vs €1,499 lifetime. The bundled support and free migrations don't fully offset that delta over multi-year horizons. Most rental customers we have eventually convert to lifetime once they're confident in the operation; the rental served its purpose during the validation period.

rental vs lifetime breakeven

When does rental pay back?

Adjust the slider for how many months you expect to operate. Rental wins under 15 months; lifetime wins past 16. The calculator also shows conversion economics if you convert mid-operation.

12 months

Honest estimate of how long you'll run sending. Pilots, short campaigns, and validation projects often have shorter horizons than expected.

Past 60 days of rental, monthly fees credit toward lifetime. Conversion path: pay €1,499 minus credit, get lifetime from that point forward.

rental path

Pure rental

Upfront cost €0
Monthly cost €99
Total at month 12 €1,188

Includes ongoing support, automatic updates, free hardware migrations. Cancel anytime with no exit cost.

lifetime path

Lifetime upfront

Upfront cost €1,499
Monthly cost €0
Total at month 12 €1,499

30-day install support included; ongoing support bills at €199/hour. Self-service updates. Hardware migrations: 2 free, €99 each after.

convert path

Rental, no conversion

Total at month 12 €1,188
Best path Pure rental
Savings €311 vs lifetime

For 12 months of operation, pure rental is cheaper. Conversion makes economic sense once you're past month 6 and confident in continuing past month 16.

Math notes: rental crossover with pure lifetime at month 16 (€1,499 ÷ €99 = 15.14, round up to 16). Conversion saves when total path cost (rental fees paid + remaining lifetime purchase after credit) is less than continued rental beyond month 16. Conversion crediting: past 60 days, every monthly fee credits toward lifetime up to 50% of lifetime cost (€749.50 maximum credit). Beyond that, you pay the remaining €749.50 to convert.

does rental fit your case?

Pick your scenario.

Six common operator scenarios. The fit assessment tells you whether rental fits, lifetime fits better, or neither is the right call. Honest assessment per scenario; some scenarios route away from PowerMTA entirely.

scenario assessment

New venture / pilot

Strong fit for rental. Pilots and new ventures have uncertain horizons; rental defers the lifetime commitment until the operation validates. If the pilot fails at month 4, you've spent €396 vs €1,499. If the pilot succeeds and continues past month 12, you convert with prior fees credited forward.

Recommended path: rental for first 6-12 months while you validate. Convert to lifetime if the operation continues past month 12.

Direct Port25 / Bird (now part of Bird, formerly MessageBird) targets enterprise customers with 7-figure email programs. Their pricing model assumes annual contracts with maintenance fees; the per-month equivalent is the floor of their tier rather than a literal price. For most mid-market operators, our rental or lifetime fit better than direct enterprise licensing.

honest fit assessment

Who rents, and who shouldn't.

good fit
  • New ventures or pilot operations. Horizons under 12 months; defer lifetime commitment until validation.
  • Short-term campaigns or seasonal sending. Black Friday infrastructure, election-cycle campaigns, fundraising drives. Rent for the campaign duration; cancel after.
  • Agency / contract work for clients. Pass-through cost rather than capital expense. Easier to bill clients monthly than amortise lifetime over engagement.
  • Cash-flow constrained operations. Long-term sending operation but €1,499 upfront isn't available. €99/month spreads cost across operation.
  • Operations preferring bundled support. Ongoing config questions covered without consulting fees. Useful for teams without internal PowerMTA expertise.
  • Multi-server operations testing. Renting one server before committing to lifetime fleet purchase. Validate operations on rental, then bulk-buy lifetime licenses.
poor fit
  • Established multi-year operations. Lifetime saves €2,000+ over 3 years vs rental. If you're confident in 3+ year horizon, lifetime is rational.
  • Operations under 10K daily volume. PowerMTA's advanced features can't earn back rental fees on volume that small. Postfix is genuinely fine; €99/month pays for capabilities you won't use.
  • Operations needing 24/7 phone support. Neither rental nor lifetime includes 24/7 phone support. Direct Port25 / Bird enterprise tier is the only path for that requirement.
  • You don't have ops capability for self-hosted. Renting PowerMTA you can't operate is wasted money. Hire someone who's run it before, or use SaaS ESP (Mailgun, AWS SES) with included infrastructure management.
  • You expect to stay PowerMTA forever. Lifetime is mathematically better past month 16. Rental's flexibility benefit is for cases where staying is uncertain.
  • Multi-server lifetime fleet. Bulk lifetime pricing past 5 servers (€1,299 each) and past 10 (€1,099 each) makes fleet renting expensive vs fleet lifetime.
scope of rental

What's in the €99/month.

01

Single-server PowerMTA license

Same software as lifetime. Latest stable release (5.1+). License binds to a specific server during active subscription. License deactivates within 7 days of cancellation; PowerMTA continues to run but stops accepting new mail submissions after deactivation.

Multi-server rental: each additional server is €79/month past the first (volume discount). For 5+ rental servers, consider whether bulk lifetime licensing fits your multi-year horizon better.

02

Production-ready sample configuration

Same starter config.cf as lifetime: VMTA pool template (3 pools: marketing, transactional, cold), receiver-aware throttling for major receivers, DKIM signing block, FBL handling, bounce categorisation, log rotation. ~1,000 lines of starter config; you customise from there.

For full setup including infrastructure provisioning, MTA installation, DNS authentication, and integration with MailWizz: bundle our PowerMTA + MailWizz Setup (€299) at order time. Most rental customers do this; the setup is independent of license type.

03

Ongoing Telegram support

Throughout the subscription, not limited to 30 days. Configuration questions, troubleshooting, performance tuning, integration help. Best-effort during operating hours (typical response within 12-24 hours).

Support scope: PowerMTA-specific questions. Out of scope: broader infrastructure consulting (architecture review, multi-server design), debugging your application code that integrates with PowerMTA, custom development. Those bill at consulting rates separately.

04

Automatic software updates

We push PowerMTA updates as available. Typical cadence: quarterly minor releases, annual major releases, security patches as needed. Updates delivered via Telegram with installation guidance; we handle pre-tested install packages so you don't deal with package conflicts.

Update timing within your control. We notify you of available updates; you schedule the install during your operations window. We don't auto-deploy without your consent; production MTA updates need maintenance windows.

05

Free hardware migrations

Server replaced, datacentre switched, infrastructure consolidated, scaling up to bigger box. License re-issued at no charge throughout the rental period. Lifetime customers get 2 free re-issues; rental customers get unlimited.

Re-issue process takes 2-4 hours. Old server license deactivated, new server license issued, MTA configuration transferred (you're responsible for the OS-level migration; we handle the license + MTA-config side).

06

Conversion path to lifetime

Convert anytime. Past 60 days, monthly fees credit toward lifetime up to 50% of lifetime cost (€749.50 max credit). Conversion fee = €1,499 minus credit. Beyond month 16, conversion saves you money over continued rental.

About 35% of our rental customers eventually convert. Most convert between months 9-15 once they've validated the operation. Conversion is friction-free; submit request via Telegram, conversion fee charged, lifetime license issued, current rental subscription ends.

07

Cancellation

Cancel anytime via Telegram. Subscription ends at month boundary (you're not charged for partial months you've used). License deactivates within 7 days; you'll receive warning before deactivation. PowerMTA software remains installed but stops accepting new mail.

Re-subscribing later: you can subscribe again at any time with a fresh subscription. Previous monthly fees don't credit forward across subscription gaps; the credit only applies to active subscriptions.

08

What's NOT included

Server hosting, OS installation, MailWizz frontend, ongoing operational management, 24/7 phone support, monitoring services. Those are separate products in our catalog. The rental is the license + bundled support.

For full setup including all ancillary work, our PowerMTA + MailWizz Setup (€299) bundles infrastructure setup with the rental. Common path: order both together for €398 initial fee then €99/month rental ongoing.

questions before you subscribe

Frequently asked.

When should I rent vs buy lifetime?

Crossover happens at month 16. Operating under 15 months: rental wins. Operating 16+ months: lifetime wins. Most senders should rent for the first 6-12 months to validate the operation, then convert to lifetime if continuing past month 12.

The calculator on this page handles your specific timeline. It also factors in conversion economics if you might convert mid-operation.

What does monthly rental include that lifetime doesn't?

Three things. Ongoing support throughout the subscription (lifetime: 30 days). Automatic software updates pushed by us (lifetime: self-service download). Free hardware migrations anytime (lifetime: 2 free, then €99 each).

Plus the operational difference: cancel anytime with no exit cost (lifetime: non-refundable past 14 days). For uncertain horizons, this matters.

What happens to my PowerMTA installation if I cancel?

License deactivates within 7 days of cancellation. PowerMTA software remains installed on your server but stops accepting new mail submissions. Existing queued mail continues to deliver until queue empties. After deactivation, you can either re-subscribe (fresh subscription, no credit from prior), buy lifetime license at standard pricing, or uninstall PowerMTA and migrate to alternative MTA.

We give 7 days warning before deactivation so you have time to plan migration if needed.

Can I migrate from rental to lifetime mid-operation?

Yes, via the conversion path. Past 60 days of rental, your monthly fees credit toward lifetime purchase up to 50% of lifetime cost (€749.50 max credit). Conversion fee equals €1,499 minus credit. Beyond month 16 of rental, conversion saves money over continued rental.

Conversion is friction-free: submit request via Telegram, conversion fee charged, lifetime license issued, current subscription ends. License keys typically re-issued within 24 hours; PowerMTA installation continues running uninterrupted.

What if I need multiple servers?

Multi-server rental: €79/month per additional server (volume discount past first). For 5+ rental servers, consider whether bulk lifetime fits your horizon better. Bulk lifetime pricing: past 5 servers €1,299 each, past 10 servers €1,099 each.

Common pattern: rent 1 server initially to validate, then buy lifetime fleet (5+ servers) once operation justifies multi-server architecture. Conversion credits apply per-server up to the total maximum.

What's the difference between rental support and consulting hours?

Rental support is configuration help, troubleshooting, and best-practice questions specific to PowerMTA. Consulting hours (€199/hour) cover broader topics: architecture reviews, vendor evaluation, post-mortems, code reviews, strategic decisions.

Rough rule: if the question is "how do I configure X in PowerMTA?", rental support handles it. If the question is "should I use PowerMTA or Halon for this architecture?", consulting handles it. We route appropriately when there's ambiguity.

Can I rent and buy lifetime simultaneously for different servers?

Yes. Some operators rent for short-term campaigns while running lifetime for primary infrastructure. License allocation is per-server; rental and lifetime can coexist in the same fleet. Most multi-server operators settle on one path eventually for operational simplicity.

Are there discounts for longer rental commitments?

Pre-paid 6-month subscription: €549 (€91.50/month, save €45). Pre-paid 12-month: €999 (€83.25/month, save €189). Pre-paid commitments don't auto-renew; you choose to re-subscribe or convert at end of term.

For most rental customers, the flexibility benefit of month-to-month outweighs the savings of pre-paid. Don't commit pre-paid unless you're confident in the operation duration.

How does payment work?

Monthly billing in advance. €99 charged on subscription anniversary each month. Payable in any of our 11 supported cryptocurrencies via self-hosted BTCPay. No third-party processor, no KYC. Pre-paid subscriptions billed once upfront for the committed period.

Rental vs purchase economics for PowerMTA infrastructure

PowerMTA rental produces lower total operating cost than purchase plus self-management for operations below specific volume thresholds. The break-even analysis varies by customer specifics but the general patterns are predictable.

Below 5M monthly volume: rental produces decisively lower TCO than purchase. Purchase licenses run EUR 4,000-8,000 annually plus 20-25% maintenance, plus hardware costs (EUR 2,000-5,000 annually for adequate VPS or dedicated infrastructure), plus operational support (10-30 hours monthly at fully-loaded operator cost). Total purchase TCO at this volume runs EUR 800-1,500 monthly equivalent. Rental at EUR 299-499 monthly is substantially lower.

5-20M monthly volume: rental and purchase approximate parity. Purchase costs scale somewhat with infrastructure requirements; rental tiers scale to match volume. The choice at this scale depends more on operator preferences for capital expense versus operational expense than on absolute cost optimization.

Above 20M monthly volume: purchase typically produces lower TCO than rental. The infrastructure investment amortizes across higher volume, and the operational discipline justifies dedicated PowerMTA license rather than rental tier. Most operators above this volume have transitioned to purchase by the time they reach this scale.

The threshold varies based on specific customer factors: operations with stable predictable volume tend toward purchase earlier; operations with variable or growing volume tend to rental longer; operations with operational team capacity for self-management tend to purchase; operations preferring fully-managed infrastructure stay with rental indefinitely.

Migration patterns between rental and self-managed PowerMTA

Operators sometimes migrate between rental and self-managed PowerMTA as their operations evolve. The migration patterns below capture what we have observed work cleanly versus what produces predictable problems.

Rental to self-managed migration: customer purchases PowerMTA license, provisions own infrastructure, deploys parallel PowerMTA installation, gradually transitions traffic to the self-managed instance. The parallel period typically runs 30-45 days while reputation builds on the new infrastructure. Total customer engineering time during migration runs 40-80 hours depending on configuration complexity.

Self-managed to rental migration: customer migrates from existing PowerMTA infrastructure to our rental service. The pattern is similar to inbound migration from any other infrastructure: parallel deployment, gradual traffic transition with reputation warming on the new infrastructure, decommissioning of the old infrastructure. Migration typically completes in 30-45 days.

Rental to rental migration: customers moving between our rental tiers (upgrading from standard to professional, downgrading to standard, expanding to enterprise) can do so without infrastructure change because the underlying PowerMTA instance handles different tier capabilities through configuration rather than separate deployments. Tier changes typically take effect within 24-48 hours of confirmation.

The decision about whether to migrate is typically driven by operational requirements rather than cost differentials at the boundaries. Customers happy with current arrangement rarely benefit from migration; customers unhappy with current arrangement should consider migration regardless of TCO calculations.

Operational support included in rental tiers

PowerMTA rental tiers include operational support that purchased licenses do not provide automatically. The support coverage varies by tier and matches the operational complexity each tier addresses.

Standard tier (EUR 299 monthly): includes initial deployment assistance, ongoing configuration tuning during business hours, integration support with major ESP control planes, monitoring of PowerMTA operational metrics with alerting. The support level fits operations sending up to 5M monthly with straightforward configuration requirements.

Professional tier (EUR 599 monthly): adds priority support response (typically 1-2 hours during business hours, 4-8 hours outside business hours), quarterly configuration reviews with optimization recommendations, integration with customer monitoring infrastructure. The support level fits operations sending 5-20M monthly with diversified configuration.

Enterprise tier (EUR 1,299 monthly): adds dedicated technical contact, 24/7 incident response, custom integration work, quarterly business reviews covering operational and strategic considerations. The support level fits operations sending above 20M monthly with complex requirements or ESP-style operations with downstream customer support requirements.

All tiers include underlying PowerMTA license cost, infrastructure provisioning and management, MessageBird vendor support escalation when issues require it. The pricing structure is fully inclusive with no surprise charges for typical operational requirements.

Service availability commitments and incident handling

PowerMTA rental service operates with availability commitments matching production sending requirements. The standard commitment is 99.9% monthly availability measured against scheduled sending windows, with credits for documented downtime exceeding the commitment.

Scheduled maintenance windows happen during low-volume periods (typically Saturday or Sunday early morning in the customer timezone), with 7-day advance notification. Most maintenance produces no customer-visible impact because we use redundant infrastructure that absorbs maintenance windows transparently; visible downtime during maintenance is typically under 15 minutes when it happens.

Incident response for unscheduled issues operates through our standard support channels. Tier 1 incidents (production sending completely unavailable) trigger immediate response with target resolution under 1 hour. Tier 2 incidents (degraded performance affecting some customers) target resolution under 4 hours. Tier 3 incidents (intermittent issues affecting limited functionality) target resolution within 24 hours.

Customers receive incident notifications through their preferred channels (email, Slack, PagerDuty integration depending on tier) during active incidents. Post-incident reports document what happened, what we did, and what we are doing to prevent recurrence. The post-incident discipline matters for trust building over time and for customer compliance frameworks that require incident documentation.
